Dead Headshot
Ugh. I STILL don’t have a headshot for the article I wrote. It was due Friday, I think, and I know they’re going to call and yell soon.
A freelance copywriter should have a professional headshot, in my humble opinion.
I guess I know why this is so hard….
- I didn’t budget to pay $70 to get it done at a studio.
- The email I wrote to my very recent ex-boyfriend asking for his help in taking this photo was apparently the straw that broke the relationship’s back. (I think it sounded too "relationshippy" for him, and he wanted to stop being in a relationship. Or something. Beats me.)
- I really, really, really hate to be photographed.
Here are few of the disasters. Tell me the truth… they are horrible, aren’t they?? My bra strap is showing! And others were taken in one of those photo booths at the mall while teenage BFFs waited for the old chick to get out of the booth. And then I decided to put a blanket over the door to get a backdrop, and it looks like a blanket over a door. Holy smokes.

Oh my gosh - I actually think some of those pictures look really nice.
The first on the left is pretty - crop it so the strap doesn’t show!
I also like the one of you behind the book - your eyes sparkle like you know something!
Use one - you will never really like a true picture of yourself (and your hair looks great!)
(Yeah - I know, too many exclamation marks. I teach freshman - I have to make it exciting!!)

Err. Folks, have you met my sister?
Sarah, thanks. But I think you may be biased. Or maybe you’ve seen too many really, really bad pictures of me.

The subject is fine. The camera work could use some improvement, but the lighting is what kills them. Would Saturday be too late to work on some better ones?

Dear Mr. Khead, if you’ve got a good camera, good lighting, a letter from your parole officer, an I’m-not-crazy certificate from your shrink, a letter of reference from your last girlfriend and a reservation at a Thai restaurant for a post-picture food fest, I might be free.

I like the second one on the left the very best. If they start yelling at you give them one of these - You can always get new ones taken on Tuesday

I like the fourth one on the left– the background needs some Photoshopping though.

I like the very bottom one. It looks like you’re confident and capable, but friendly; well-groomed and businessy, but down to earth.

Hi, folks. Thanks for the photo advice. I ended up going with Mr. Lun Khead to take more pictures this weekend. We were in great studio space, and everything was perfect. Almost everything…. I forgot to set the camera to take high-resolution shots. I sent the best of the pics off to the magazine. Keep your fingers crossed.
