Notes from some Avenue Z readers…

I can’t express how invaluable your blog to me has been in the last several days as I start seriously considering leaving my cushy advertising agency job for the wilds of the freelance world. Please keep writing, about the good and the bad and whatever else you feel like sharing. You’re lighting the way for at least one terrified writer!

I love this site. I love the design and the well-written content, which I find very relevant, given my own current efforts to build my business in writing and editing.

Hi Beth,

I just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you.

In a blog post a while back you wrote about some of the things you do to promote you business.  One of them was offering short articles for free to publications in order to get your name out there.  I took your advice and sent emails out to a handful of different industry associations here in Canada asking if I could write an article for their newsletters on accessibility for people with disabilities (a niche market that I do a lot of writing about).  I offered to write the article for free asking only that my name be included along with a short description of myself as a freelance writer with expertise in this area.

Well I just got a response from one of them saying that they liked the idea and asking if I could send them 800 words by July 31!

Thank you so much for your advice!

Sara

Beth…. I wanted you to know that it made it to my Bookmark page!  You are indeed a wonderful writer who does a good job of capturing some of the key insights of building a small business, as well as other aspects of life in general.  So, I just wanted to drop a note to let you know that!

Beth, I think the thing you really have to sell is your advice, your tips and your tools of the trade. And you do it with such a nice “voice” and personality. This is what is going to win people over and keeping them coming back.

I will be staying tuned. I have subscribed to your feed and look forward to reading more.

I stumbled across this blog and absolutely love it. As the CEO of an association management company and personally managing 5+ oncology networks, I find the postings amusing and I admire your conversational writing style.
