Beth - it looks like sub 5 hours is well within your capabilities.

As per Mr M., I also admire anyone who completes (yea, even attempts) a marathon.

Back in the day I was a 400m hurdler - now I'm happy with around 5K jogging plus calisthenics per session.

10K would be a winter 'long, long run' in my book. And that's just fine.

I notice and I care about your time running a marathon, if you choose to write a book, and if you are happy. You will never the the only one who cares or who measures your success.

As my stroll down Avenue Continues, I leave the writer to write, and the one who cycles to ride.

PS -- Is my face red; I got in a hurry (that's no excuse) and didn't edit my post, thus the first graf error. Feel free to put a bad grade on it (in red ink, of course) and write a smart alecky note back. rm

As I read your rationale about the less-than-wonderful (in your eyes) marathon time I wondered if you could have shown that same degree of mature thinking during your student days. I think not, in spite of your intelligence.

You are still my hero (heroine?); back when I was able to jog, the most I ever did in one session was six miles, (could have gone more, but it was getting dark) so anybody who does a marathon in ANY time has, in my eyes, accomplished a great deal. It's not just the physical ordeal, but the mental and emotional as well, as you undoubtedly know. You do exhibit a good attitude, as Papa said in the post above, and I commend you for it.

I, and others, I am sure, don't really care if you never run Boston or New York; 26+ miles is 26+ miles, wherever they are measured.
