Thanks for this! I was just wondering about it... One question, if you have figured it out: which stats service have you found more accurate?

Best.

AFAIK your computer requests an IP address from your ISP - and this includes a "lease time" (say, 48 hours). It usually just renews the lease before expiry and thus you'll see the same IP address.

At least that's how it works here in Japan with the broadband link to my house.

In days of yore I had modem dialup access and got a new IP address (within a certain range) each time I dialed in.

Re the Spiders... yes, I'm thinking of blocking some of those "unknown ones" but it's not a high priority task at present. Yahoo's Slurp is particularly greedy on my sites!

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure bounce rate is too important if you are not selling anything. If your readers are regular visitors to your page it would make sense that they would stop in and read just the new post and not go anywhere else. Depending on the length of your post, they might not stay too long either. Also, my read of the way FeedBurner calculates feed subscriptions is that it is not an actual count but some sort of algorithm they use that is based on the likely percentage of your visitors would subscribe to your feed. That's why it can change substantially from day to day. My understanding is that the e-mail subscription count is the only one that is a true count.
