Ooooh, a cupcake ad!!

(Seriously, the mention here of cupcakes as well as a pic of several delectable-looking ones on one post has had me going out to buy packages of two-bite ones! Which I managed to finish in two days!! I don't know of any place around here that sells lovely fresh ones.)

I have no problem with advertising on sites that I read, as long as it's unobtrusive and low-key. You have the right to make money any way you choose. Of course, you obviously shouldn't allow people to advertise products you don't agree with, especially if you have written something to that effect. How great would it be to have a cupcake advertisement at the bottom, though? Serious awesome.

Hey Beth: Jules Viernes? Ahahaha! Around the world in 80 days, perhaps? LOL!

I don't have a problem with advertising on a professional blog. I wouldn't do it on my for-fun blog, though. This I'd see as your professional blog, and I wouldn't mind if I saw advertising or affiliate links here. I respect that as a way of making money. Everyone has to make it in some way.

When I decided to go with InMotion hosting, I clicked on the link at menwithpens.ca to get there. They have a little grid of advertising, if you want to have a look, that's nice and unobtrusive. I got great hosting, they got a little bonus from my signing up. We're both happy. They only advertise stuff they'd use.

I have read, though, that you should have so many posts and so many readers before you monetize. I think for sure you have enough material. I haven't got a clue how many readers you have but you can always do some research on monetizing, or send a contact form off to James via menwithpens.ca, since they know quite a lot about marketing and advertising. They are setting me up. He will answer in very short time.

To sum up, I know you've had some moments when you feel it's cheap or unsightly or something like that, but in my opinion, go for it. If it offers me something I might need or could use (you advocate quite a lot of things that really work for you, for example, and you could become an affiliate of those services and thus have their ads on your site), then I'd see it as you offering me resources, not just trying to get money out of my clicking.

Advertisements have their place I feel. I don't think that I will ever pay to have someone write about my site. If someone feels the need they will write about it or post a trackback as you did, and I'm very thankful for that.

That post was ages old and you managed to find it. More than likely via google, but it was still found. This lets me know that the post was worth writing and it helped in a small way.

I do payperpost, and socialspark. I really get tired of them both. But it does help pay for the domain. That is what I really use it for.
