Beth, I'm the same way, and I've been freelancing for over five years. I don't think I'll ever get rich off it, or make so much money that I can splurge regularly, but I know I will make more eventually. I think it's harder to be so controlled when you're with someone. Colin and I both weaken each other when it comes to stuff we want as opposed to stuff we need. We're not irresponsible, but we're not paying off our debts as fast as we could! We cut off TV last year, and other things we didn't find necessary, but then we bought a new DVD player when the other one quit playing properly. Regarding grocery shopping and spending money *on my own,* though, I'm the epitome of control. I'm much better at handling money than Colin, but I think that's because he spends on a regular basis, buying gas and such. I barely leave the house, so I'm used to not having or spending it. For the longest time, until recently, I never had a clue what our account held; it was easier that way. I assumed we never had enough, so I never spent!

I'm having to tighten my belt too. I think everyone is, even if they have a corporate wage slave job. When I meet someone for lunch, I now suggest a place that I know I can afford - usually Applebees because they have my Weight Watchers menu. I also rarely go out for meals, if ever. I make my coffee at home now, and don't buy coffee out any more. That's something I reserve for a special treat for myself. Besides a light frappuccino, no whip, is two points! LOL. I conserve my points the same way I conserve my money. LOL.
