The weekends are so l-o-n-g
I just posted an ad on craigslist:
Are you a freelancer with no office to call your own? I’m a full-time, female freelance writer with a fairly large home office (large for Golden Hill, at least). I’m looking for another freelancer who might want to share space.
This post may be a long shot, but frankly I could use a little company in a professional office environment. We’d have to have similar work styles (mine is many hours typing quietly punctuated by a call here and there for an interview or from a client).
If you’re searching craigslist for a small office where you could be productive and see actual people, maybe we’d be a match.
As usual, I think I’m being too honest here, but I really can’t tell you how amazingly quiet this house is. I’ve been rattling about all day long, trying to fill the hours with work, a bath, coffee with a friend. It’s always worse just after the end of a relationship, and two weeks ago today D.J. and I called it quits.
Think about it: for probably 22 out of 24 hours a day, I don’t even use my voice. I don’t have a TV or a real radio, so most of the time the only noise in the house comes from the tapping of these typewriter keys. I go to the coffee shop, but really all I do is order and pay and say thank you.
I love my job. I love my independence. I have great friends who hang out when they can. But they leave their homes, go to work, meet their boyfriends, visit their families. The way I have set up this business is tough sometimes (and today I mean that as a severe understatement).

I hear you loud and clear. If I lived down there, I’d share a space with you. The only reprieve I have is that my adult daughter still lives with me, but that too will end sometime.

Papa, shoot! Don’t tell Mom I’m blue. She’ll make me come home for sure.
This is what I get for keeping the family on the subscription list. My father picks TODAY to start reading the blog. Sigh.
PS… Pop, your offer would sound really creepy if I didn’t know it was actually you.

Oh, B, I hear you. It’s very hard to concentrate like this, isn’t it? I think that’s why I’m an infomaniac (which is not what it looks, or sounds! like). But I could never work in a café or public place, either…I think your idea of posting an ad is fantastic and it’s a good one, too! Too bad I didn’t live closer!
