I had to turn off a co-worker's track changes function today. She was ready to pull her hair out. Word and intuitive are not synonyms.

Hey - what are some of the proof reading symbols? For my department, we always use the versions portion of word, this helps us see how the original audit issue was written to be sure when management make changes, it does not change the audit issue. When my dept sends the report out, we re-save the report and strip off all the versions with our comments from the report. Don't want anything out there that could embarrass the dept.

Beth,

I only recently began reading Avenue Z. I quite like it. This is a good article, and I am much on the same page as you with the printing issue (no pun intended). I, too, am a stickler for using proofreader marks.

Anyway, just wanted to say that you have a new reader, and your thoughts are much appreciated.

Thanks, Beth! I like that highlighting tip! I can't use it with manuscripts, but I like it for shorter proofs! And I'm a huge advocate of printing stuff out. When I finished sixty pages of endnotes the other day, I printed them out and proofed them, even though a proofer will follow my edit. I always find it much easier to find mistakes on paper. I too use the second side and the fast, greyscale option.
