clean-sink.JPGI’m completely moved into the new place now, and I just finished the dishes in my sink.

Wow. Everything here looks so perfect now. Clean, new, uncluttered. I love it.

And I know it won’t last.

I’ll soon start to slip into old habits: cold coffee in stained mugs at my desk; wet towels tossed on the bed; laundry piled up on the floor of the bedroom; an unmade bed….

What’s going to happen to my house is what has happened to my business. I made a half dozen resolutions when I started my freelance copywriting business last year, and most of them have slipped away:

Resolution 1 – Keep my inbox empty: Right now I have 1284 messages in the damn thing. No, really.

Resolution 2 — Work on marketing every day: These days I work on writing projects 4-5 hours a day and do other little things (like answering email and returning calls) for the rest of the time.

Resolution 3 – Find a good balance between home and work: HA! These days it’s all work. And when I’m not working, I’m either working out or at D.J.’s.

Resolution 4 – Finish all deadlines two days early: HA again! I just had to call a client to tell him I’d have his things Monday COB, and I have to finish another flyer today.

Resolution 5 – Limit your trips to the coffee shop: I guess I shouldn’t mention the double Americano on my desk as I write this, huh?

Resolution 6 — Keep up with your accounting: This calls for the third HA! I’ve got to bill probably a half dozen clients, but I keep putting it off.

Oh well. Guess I’ll just enjoy the clean house and the good intentions while they last. I’ve got plenty of time to HA at my dirty dishes in the future.
