Energy-saving power stripI made a big purchase a few days ago. After the post on reducing your plug load, I decided I could do more to make sure I was using the least amount of electricity possible. Staples must have known I was contemplating my environmental responsibility because I received a notice of a sale on a type of super power strip that helps you control energy usage.

This thing controls energy consumption by sensing when my laptop is inactive and powering down my laptop peripherals (such as the printer and the monitor) when I’m not there. It also serves as a battery backup if I lose power.

Remooable EnergyI’ve been kind of sickened lately about my consumption of paper goods, electricity, plastic, etc. It’s really important to me to make as little impact on the environment as possible. I’m even thinking of purchasing carbon offsets to compensate the Earth for my CO2 emissions. I wrote an article Monday night that dealt with how to purchase carbon offsets, and this site helps you determine your carbon footprint.  The coolest thing they offer is “Remooable” Energy Credits, where your money goes to help turn methane gas from farms into a resource. It’s way cool.
