It’s a little early here
My first call this morning started at 7 a.m. Pacific Time. One of the challenges of working here on the West Coast is that many of my clients live across the country. At 8 a.m. my time, my clients are almost ready for lunch. Frequently I have early-morning meetings, and they stress me out. I have to be awake, prepared, smart, insightful, interesting and available before most of my friends here in San Diego have had their second cups of coffee. It’s tough.
But that also means that my phone stops ringing around 2 p.m. A good deal of my clients are headed out the door, and I can concentrate on the act of writing.
These days, though, as my client base expands, I’m finding that I have clients spread across the country. I schedule any calls with local clients after 2 p.m., but that keeps me busy with client communication, emails and general business functions until after 5. And THEN I can start the business of writing.
Of course, having clients from all over the country is not actually a problem. I’m just a bit cranky when I haven’t had enough coffee.

what an apt post – i just did a press release for a client in australia. i didn’t realize when i took the project that it would mean a tiny window of communication time and also almost missing a deadline because i didn’t realize that while it was monday here, it was half way through tuesday there.
ah, the weirdo problems of a copywriter.

Sarah, isn’t it wonderful to say, “I just did a press release for a client in Australia,” and “ah, the weirdo problems of a copywriter”?
We live a dream life, you know.

Sometimes too much coffee makes things difficult to accomplish as well.
