		<description>the problem i've found with project-based payment is that you can do 95% of the project and never see any money (or only see half). when you're doing hourly, you can bill as you go. 

also - i can see what you mean by being paid for hours you haven't worked yet. annoying!</description>

		<description>Having worked as a consultant for a consulting firm, I see the value in charging by the hour, for many of the reasons you cite. I have never seen any benefit for charging by the project, unless you are really fast at what you do and can use speed to your advantage.</description>
