I received a cold call from an accountant agency that specializes in small
startups. That would be me in a nutshell, of course. I made an
appointment, and the representative is coming by today at 2.

I’m so amazingly clueless about accounting and taxes that I don’t even know what
one would do for me. My father keeps telling me that I need one, and my
favorite copywriter business books advise I get one, but I really feel naive
about the whole concept.

I’m also very wary of small business accountants in general. My former company had
a heck of a time with accountants. One pilfered money because she was worried
that she couldn’t pay the rent and couldn’t stand the thought of her cats being
homeless. That’s right. Her cats.

Another had personal problems and received a phone call one day that left her in tears.
She left the office immediately and never came back.

After that, my company went with a very established firm and has had zero problems.
But am I going to end up with a crazy cat lady? And how much do they cost?

I’m not trying to insult the field of accounting. I just wish I knew more about it
so I could determine what I need and what I don’t.
