I have to get a prescription filled
this weekend, and I’m petrified. Since starting out on my own as a freelance
copywriter
, one of the biggest challenges of all (besides the panic
about a regular paycheck) has been in getting health insurance.

One
guy told me I absolutely would not be covered on an independent plan, and he
kept advising me to get a day job or staying on COBRA (about $450 a month!). I
ended up getting some pretty good coverage with a very high deductible, but I
know it would send up red flags if I got a certain prescription filled. I just
started this stuff, and I’ve been on samples. I’m almost out.

I
know this prescription is going to cost me a fortune, and I don’t know what to
do. Perhaps I’ll buy one week’s worth at a time until I can figure out how to get
the pills from Canada. Or maybe I’ll keep looking for natural remedies to
replace the expensive medication (there’s no generic in the States yet, but
there’s one available in Canada).

What’s
a one-woman business supposed to do about health care? If you have anything at
all wrong with you, they won’t take you.

I’ll
write more about my saga with the health insurance search soon, but until then…
anyone want to get married? Move with me to Canada? Loan me a couple thou’ so I
can stay on medication?

No?
Ok. Doesn’t hurt to ask.
