Extreme Photo Phobia
One of my articles is going to be published in an industry magazine in January. The editor asked me for a bio and a professional headshot.
Oh LORD but I hate photos of myself. I’ve pretty successfully avoided most photo opportunities, including Christmas, company picnics and even for the most part my own wedding (which was fine, because I didn’t take any pictures during the divorce either).
But I know a professional person needs a good photo when the situation arises. I begged my last boss to get headshots of all his main staff, but he didn’t. And right before I left, our company was featured in a prominent industry magazine. They asked for a picture of the VP, and all we could come up with was a picture of him at his daughter’s prom with the brick background of a high school auditorium. No, really.
I also know that people like to see the people they’re working with. So I’m doing this thing today at JC Penney’s. I’ve decided I’m going for more of a personality shot than a glamor shot. I’m going to bring my laptop and maybe try to replicate the woman in my banner here at Life on Avenue Z.
Or can I just go for something artsy, like this?
Ok. It’s not artsy. It’s creepy.
